- Have fun.
★ Prompts
1) Arrival
[Before you knew it, the world you were in had gone dark. Why or even how wasn't exactly clear, but the moment you wake up, you find that you are not where you were before. Instead there appears to be a small village, but it's dark and the people appear to not be leaving there houses anytime soon. Why weren't they? Perhaps looking around might wield results.]
2) Monster Attack
[Just outside the village creatures appear to be wondering around. If you come too close they will attack. Sharp claws swinging towards whoever crosses there path. Avoid or counter?]
3) What the hell?!
[In the woods, if one were to wonder further enough they would come across a circle and a bunch of cloak people, kneeling down and bowing down toward the center. Whatever was going on it was certainly odd.]
4) Wildcard

2 | (Post Cap 2, Pre Cap 3)
He had little advantage. Not only was he in unfamiliar territory, but it seemed like the... creatures, whatever the hell they were, knew exactly where they were and what they were doing. He could feel it in the air. They were out for a kill.
He stood completely still, thoughts incessantly racing to find a way out of the sick game he'd landed in. He tightened his hands into fists, the minimum of a plan forming as his mind worked to process the situation. He was beginning to fear that said plan wasn't going to form near quickly enough. ]

He's coming up on the edges of the village, hoping to see if he can get a look at anything that might be surrounding the village, and his gaze is caught by a figure ahead of him. There's a glint of something in the low light, metal? He's about to call out to the other, to ask them if they've found anything of interest, but then he sees the other darker forms approaching. What they are, they don't look human.
Steve steps forward, his shield now clutched in one hand. He calls out a warning.]
Watch out! [One of the dark forms has broken away from the rest and is charging the other man. Steve lets his shield fly, aiming straight for the creature.]

The Bucky that he used to be, the one that loved Steve Rogers like a brother, so desperately wanted to break out. To say something, to do something. Anything. But the Bucky he was now? That Bucky was terrified. He knew how he was supposed to feel, and while in the deepest part of himself he felt something, it was so hard to make sense of it. The only thing he knew for sure is that he felt shame. Guilt. Like he never wanted Steve to look at him again, because he knew he didn't deserve a second glance.
And that's why he ran. ]
no subject
He's only a few feet away when the other man suddenly bolts and Steve is so surprised he stops in his tracks for a split second. But then he moves, scooping up his shield on the way, and taking off after him.]
Hey! It's dangerous out here. Where are you going?
no subject
There was no real way to shake him without outing himself or putting Steve into further danger, either. He knew what Bucky's weapons looked like; even if he intentionally missed all it took was one look at the knife Steve had become intimately familiar with for his identity to be known.
Back in the recesses of his mind, he couldn't process why he was running. Steve Rogers was the only man left alive that cared about him. The only one that believed he wasn't everything HYDRA tried to make him be, that wouldn't give up fighting for him even if it took him to the grave. Even if Steve didn't know it was him that he was chasing, he knew that if he did have that knowledge the fact would only make him run faster.
But... the Bucky he remembered wasn't a coldblooded killer. How could a man who had become a monster face the one person who had known him at his best?
He couldn't stop running. He couldn't. ]
no subject
But this is what he would necessary. Whatever it is this guy is trying to achieve, Steve isn't going to just sit back and watch him get himself killed.
He could only run for so long, but Steve would rather stop him sooner rather than later. Preferably before they get much further from the village. Time for a drastic measure.
The shield in his hand is like an extension of his arm as he winds it back and throws it forward, aiming for the man's legs. Not hard enough to do any damage, but enough to trip the guy or throw him off balance, giving Steve the chance to catch up.]

Bucky heard the distinct sound of the shield cutting through the air before it hit him. In a thoughtless reactionary move he turned, his face visible for a fraction of a second before his hair obscured it. He tried in vain to veer to the side, but he was too late. The sheer force of the object hit right on target and he fell hard to the damp forest floor.
He swore sharply in a foreign tongue, fingernails clawing at the dirt in an attempt to gain enough traction to stand again. He knew, though. He knew he couldn't escape this time, and it petrified him. In one last desperate attempt, he managed to bring himself to his knees, his muddied hand held out as if begging Steve to keep away. ]
Please.... don't.
[ Don't come closer. Don't look at me. Don't... don't let me hurt you again. ]
2 | (Post Cap 2, Pre Cap 3)
Freya is an expert on running; she's spent the last 11 years running.]
Follow me!
[Her voice is panicked.]
There're too many.
her username is so appropriate lmao
What the hell are those things?
Damn Straight!
Her feet take them quickly away and her path is expertly crafted to pull them from the shadows sights.]
I don't know.
[Her voice comes out in a breathless mess. She isn't bothered by his metal arm but then she doesn't have the time to really inspect it. They are several yards away when Freya stops running. She releases Bucky's arm and slides her backpack from her shoulders. She now regrets carrying text books.]
Oh this place sucks. [She looks back at the man with a smile.] You okay?
no subject
He ran with her in a concentrated silence, but he stuck close behind. When they finally stopped, he pulled his hand away and buried it in the pocket of his pants. His arm was mostly covered, but the bit of shiny metal that had shown itself made him self conscious, even more so when she had grabbed it. That hand had done a lot of heinous things. ]
So we're both in the dark.
[ He cast his gaze downward, quietly steadying his own breathing. ]
I am. [ He paused. ] Thank you.
no subject
It seems that way. [It isn't unusual for her to not know where she was going, it is unusual for her to not know where she is.]
You are very welcome. [She smiles at him.] Still look tense. [Does he ever relax?]
You're alive and we're away from those things but are you really okay?
[Strange world and everything...]

In a past long ago, he would have returned her smile. That Bucky probably would have even slipped in a charming word or two, a small flirtation or some cheesy line about being rescued by an angel. At the very least he wouldn't have been so... rigid. But he wasn't that guy anymore, no matter how much he wished he could be.
There was a noted silence from Bucky at most of her comments, but he looked almost lost when she asked if he was... okay? People didn't ask him that, so he didn't even consider that she might have meant it. To him it was just another reason to be wary. ]
I don't know you and you don't know me. What concern is it to you?
[ After so many decades of believing he was the most intimidating soldier in the world, it was hard to control his tone in situations of high stress. He attempted to keep it level enough to not be threatening -- the threats could always come later if they were necessary -- but the fact that he didn't know what her M.O. was didn't help matters. ]
no subject
It isn't. I'm horribly sympathetic. Don't feel like you have to answer.
[She won't press considering it's a question she wouldn't answer. A heavy sigh falls from her lips and she turns to rummage through her bag. After rearranging some things she shrugs off her jack and shoves it into the backpack which is now bulging slightly.]
I don't really know what those things are but they looked like shadows. [A shiver creeps down her spine but she ignores it. Those things are probably magic.] I think we just need light to stay safe.
[Unless he wants to go waving his metal arm around.]

He wasn't disappointed this time around, either, as the winding path on which he found himself nearly lead him straight into Bucky's back. His danger sense (or rather the warding bracelet around his left wrist) told him these monsters meant business and he raised his staff at one of the approaching creatures, taking one step around Bucky as he summoned his magic into the staff, igniting the runes in scarlet fire.]
Forzare! [A ripple of force blasts from the end of the staff, striking the closest creature and hurling it backward into another. They're only prone for a few seconds before they start to shake it off. In the meantime, Harry goes through his mental arsenal and reaches into the large pocket of his duster for his revolver. Nothing beats a revolver. Not even magic most of the time.] Hi, I'm Harry. Your move.
<3
He didn't have much time to dwell on it. Rather he liked it or not the creatures were already creeping back upon them and he knew they had no choice but to fully engage. One of the monstrosities lept forward in the stranger's direction in an attempt at retaliation, but Bucky was quick to react with his metallic arm bent in defense. The monster's jaw closed down on it, but as he suspected those sharp teeth had only been expecting weak flesh. Bucky utilized the opportunity without a split second of hesitation, the heel of his boot connecting with the creature in a kick that sent it flying backwards.
He looked back to Harry, his eyebrow raised slightly when he spotted the revolver. ]
You could have started with that. [ He turned his gaze forward again, ready for whatever was going to hit them next. ] Bucky, by the way.

Another shadow appeared in the path before them, snarling, and then a rustle behind caught Harry's attention, causing him to turn. At least Bucky Steel-Grip could handle the one in front, giving Harry the confidence to turn. He hadn't followed Bucky's gaze to his hip, but even if he had, it wouldn't have stopped his sarcastic response. It just wasn't in his nature to see the opportunity and let it pass.]
Great idea, but I left my metal arm in my other jacket. [The comment was spoken as he turn, drawing from a loop on his belt, not his pistol, but a twelve inch length of wood, carved with runes that flared to scarlet light as he pushed will into the rod. With a solid, commanding tone, he spoke one word. Fuego! A softball sized ball of churning fire erupted from the end of the blasting rod, hitting the shadow square in the chest and quickly burning it away to nothing.
That was neat. What was more, gathered shadows nearing the edges of the path recoiled from the shine of the passing ball of fire and a confident smirk touched Harry's lips.]
Cover me. I've got an idea, but it's going to take me a minute.

He flipped the knife into his hand and stood on the defensive, the monsters taking that as their cue to attack. Bucky rushed forward to intercept them, well aware that Harry had his hands full at his back. He feigned a swipe at the creature on the left, leaving the rightmost to think it had an advantage. Swiftly he pulled his hand back, landing a kick to the overconfident one and grasping the other's skull with his metal hand.
He applied a bone shattering pressure to it before using his other hand to stab the creature in a place that he could only hope was the location of a major artery. Bucky ripped the knife out of it's limp body just soon enough to roll out of the way of the dead one's lunging companion. He sent the sharp knife soaring through the air and it landed deep within the creature before it could advance too far. It, too, dropped to the ground.
Bucky chanced a look at Harry, catching sight of the final seconds of the effect the fire's burn created. He pulled himself to his feet and retrieved his knife in two broad steps, quick to reassume a fighting position. ]
I think I can manage a minute.
[ He was used to working alone, after all, but he had to admit to himself that this teamwork thing wasn't half bad.]

The monsters were growing bold again, pressing in from all sides. Harry stepped back, closing the distance between himself and Bucky, and drew together all his frustration as this dislocation, his concern, his fear, his worry, and bundled it into a tight ball of intention in his chest, the vision of his spell growing ever more acute in his mind.
Calling to mind a Quasi-Latin word to give those thoughts shape, he tucked the pistol into his belt, grasped his long staff with both hands, stepped three steps from Bucky, held the staff aloft, and brought it down quickly, shouting his phrase and releasing the gathered in energy.]
Magmus Illuminatus!
[On impact with the dying earth, a brilliant flash of light, bright as a sun erupted from the staff, spreading in all directions, momentarily bathing the surrounding forest with light as bright as the mid-day sun. Gathered shadows hissed in protest and fled from the flash. The burst faded as quickly as it erupted, but the surrounding forest sounded much more empty than it had before.
It would keep the horde at bay, at least for now. After the cast, Harry slumped his shoulders, leaning more heavily on his staff. That was weird. Something like that shouldn't have taken that much out of him.]
Oh. Right. You should probably cover your eyes.
